Topic: The Environment
The problem in Saudi Arabia deals with environmental issues. Some environmental problems include desertification and the lack of water resources and pollution thereof. Desertification is when a lot of land that has become desert-like; most of these areas have been caused due to overgrazing and loss of soils. The lack of water resources includes the lack of rivers and permanent water bodies. The water pollution problem is something that is relatively new in Saudi Arabia, especially in Jeddah. This problem is due to population overgrowth.
Saudi Arabia is struggling with these environmental problems, and they are not able to deal with it on their own; they need the United Nations help. The UN could go in and help not only with managing their water supply and trying to keep it clean, but also with making sure that the land is used properly so that desertification isn’t such a big problem.
The UN should help with agricultural activity rather than just sending money. Many times when the UN sends money to a certain country, the country doesn’t necessarily use it in the right manner. That is why the UN should instead go in and do the work themselves, rather than rely on Saudi Arabia to fix the problem by themselves.
