Some gender issues happened in the past decades, when women couldn't participate in places of the government, or to be elected as a President, or couldn't vote, etc.
But nowadays in some countries this had change, now men and women have the same opportunities and can do the same things.
But also nowadays in some countries like in the middle east, women have to follow some restrictions and can't do whatever they want. This can be because of their religion or because of traditions.
So I think that the gender depends of each country and its beliefs, because actually every country have the option to defend women's rights, but because of religion or thoughts they don't follow them.
