Germany - Edgar Angeles

German auto companies have been accused of boycotting the incorporation of filtration in diesel models, which account for 44% of tourism that are sold today in the Bavarian country.

It is understandable that French brands belonging the PSA and Renault provide this element in their vehicles and, by contrast, a country with a reputation in the industry as it is not German example.

Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen have agreed to incorporate the filter from autumn and BMW at 2006.

I want the UN to create a deal mainly between the countries that are near of Germany to avoid the contamination in Europe that is the area that my country is trying to clean of the pollution.

Current Humanitarian Situation
Refugees International has observed extreme vulnerabilities among the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi refugees living in Syria, Jordan, and other parts of the region, as well as the millions of internally displaced persons within Iraq. Most refugees have not been granted legal status and thus live in limbo, often without access to basic services and work opportunities. Many persons displaced within the country have no access to assistance, basic levels of protection, or any hope of return to their original homes.

Refugees and internally displaced persons:

refugees (country of origin): 10,000-15,000 (Palestinian Territories); 11,773 (Iran); 16,832 (Turkey)
IDPs: 2.4 million (ongoing US-led war and ethno-sectarian violence) (2007)

SUCCESSES
In line with our recommendations, in 2009 the U.S. provided substantial funding to the UN Refugee Agency’s Iraq programs and supported programs that prevent and respond to violence against displaced women. The U.S. also continued its resettlement program, admitting over 18,800 Iraqis last year.

Deforestation in New Zealand is one of the principal environmental problems. According to an article online, ¨Two-thirds of the nation’s forests have been eliminated¨. This problem causes a big disequilibrium in natural process, like the quantity of rain, the life of animals, and also affects one of the principal’s economic activities, the agriculture. So New Zealand wants to ask to the UN create a program in order to protect their forest and also plant and takes care other trees to recuperate the tree lost.

New Zealand wants to check how the UNEP can help them in other environmental problems.

This problem affects all the memberships on the UN because the quantity of life of people diminishes not only in New Zealand but around the world.

Argentina.... Jaime

The fear of an invasion of products from Greece and other European nations affected by the economic crisis explains the decision of the Argentine government to promote measures to halt or reduce food imports.
While so far there was no written communication, verbal as the Ministry of Internal Trade told them to large supermarket chains and major food-importing its decision to deny entry to the country of any product which has an equivalent production national, in order to protect local industry.
The measure led to the unanimous rejection not only of the embassies of the countries most affected by trade restrictions, such as Brazil, Spain, Italy and now Greece, but also local businesses and economists, who stressed that Argentina may be the most affected by such sanctions, as the country has more to lose than to win.
In this sense, we must bear in mind that the trade balance in food today is clearly favorable for Argentina, which annually exports over U.S. $ 20,000 million, while imports of just over U.S. item $ 1,000 million annually.
This is affecting some members of the UN, because they want to export their products to decrease their debt, and Argentina wants to benefit by its local products. And is affecting other countries.

Daniel Calleja United Kingdom Topic

Topic: Mortgage Crisis

Due to problems in the US subprime market, there is difficulty in financing mortgage lending. This is causing several mortgage products to be withdrawn e.g. 125% mortgages and 100% mortgages.
However, maybe the idea of a crisis is exaggerated. True, mortgage companies are becoming stricter on lending, but this is perhaps a desirable response to a period of very lax lending criteria. Although it causes some inconvenience, especially for first time buyers, it does at least prevent future problems in the market.

Volatile Prices

The UK housing market is susceptible to booms and bust. For example, in the late 80s, house price inflation exceeded 30%; this was followed by a year of house prices falling 15% (1992). In recent years, house prices have risen by over 20% and now many fear a housing price drop. The volatility of the house prices in the UK is due to a number of factors.
People choose variable mortgages and take out large loans. This means mortgage payments are a high % of income (over 20%) therefore, any change in interest rates has a significant impact on affordability.
Shortage of supply exaggerates any change in demand.

Topic: The Environment
The problem in Saudi Arabia deals with environmental issues. Some environmental problems include desertification and the lack of water resources and pollution thereof. Desertification is when a lot of land that has become desert-like; most of these areas have been caused due to overgrazing and loss of soils. The lack of water resources includes the lack of rivers and permanent water bodies. The water pollution problem is something that is relatively new in Saudi Arabia, especially in Jeddah. This problem is due to population overgrowth.
Saudi Arabia is struggling with these environmental problems, and they are not able to deal with it on their own; they need the United Nations help. The UN could go in and help not only with managing their water supply and trying to keep it clean, but also with making sure that the land is used properly so that desertification isn’t such a big problem.
The UN should help with agricultural activity rather than just sending money. Many times when the UN sends money to a certain country, the country doesn’t necessarily use it in the right manner. That is why the UN should instead go in and do the work themselves, rather than rely on Saudi Arabia to fix the problem by themselves.

My UN Resolution Topic!

Global warming is a current and relevant topic.

Some of the main effects of global warming are visible in the most remote northern regions of Canada. Sea ice is taking longer to form in the winter months and as a result is having a significant impact on the polar bear. Warmer winters have become a noticeable effect of global warming on Canada with pleasant weather replacing bitterly cold snaps on a more common occurrence. With warmer weather, Canada is beginning to see the ever famous "ice roads" thawing out for a longer period of the year. This is having an impact on the delivery of supplies for not only industry and businesses, but also remote populations who rely on these ice roads.

This issue is affecting other members of the UN, because all the nations are having effects of global warming, and the only way to resolve it is whit the union of all the countries of the world, through treated.

Italy Alejandro

It is interesting to assess the reality about their Italian immigrants, most from Africa, who many have entered the country illegally, of course there are other nations such as Albania, China, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan.
When passing through the South, Central and Northern Italy, is the large number of Africans who swarm through its main cities, seeking employment opportunities, which today has become difficult in Italy facing a serious economic crisis and where unemployment is alarming, especially in the South.

Recently, in Rosarno, Calabria, there have been clashes between groups of African immigrants, police and neighbors Rosarno, southern Italy, causing dozens of injuries, while civilians brandishing iron bars through the city in a climate of extreme tension attributed to racism , exploitation and intolerance.
Rosarno is located in the Piana di Gioia Tauro, where about 1,500 immigrants, mostly illegal immigrants from Africa and work in the fields up to 15 hours a day in exchange for a paid day laborers scarce
Report ansa.it / Ansalatine / notizie in the last few hours a group of 200 immigrants housed in a former factory in Rognetta, Rosarno, was moved to the island Capo Rizzuto.

Silvio Berlusconi's government ordered the urgent dispatch of police reinforcements to contain the situation, which began after the assault by two immigrants, according to reports.
The mayor of Reggio Calabria, Luigi Varrata said that 37 people were injured in the clashes, including 19 immigrant and 18 policemen.
Two of the immigrants are in serious condition after being attacked with iron bars. Two others were shot in their legs, but they are out of danger. At night, groups of residents and migrants exchanged stones.

2,500 immigrants of color were taken yesterday by the Italian authorities to shelters near the city of Rosarno.
Given this reality, the Italian Interior Minister Roberto Maroni says
one of the hypotheses being considered in the investigation of the facts is that the Ndrangheta group (the mafia in the region of Calabria) is behind the violence against immigrants to get them out of town. This group would have unleashed violence against immigrants.
Maroni, which drives the creation of the crime of illegal immigration in Italy, added: "If the police discover an illegal immigrant (he) has to be arrested and taken to a local identification and expulsion: identified and then expelled. This is always follow the procedure. "
In the last two years 40 000 illegal immigrants have been repatriated to their countries of origin of illegal immigrants landing in Italy fell by 90 percent, says the agency EFE.

What I will do???

If I were the president of Liberia I would try to negotiate with the rebels as much as I can to reach an agreement that I think it would be the easiest and most convenient way, because if the military forces intervene it would be a civil war and could bring very serious consequences and it would be difficult to repair. So I think it would be best to negotiate.

Alejandro Carus Buganza

Policy - Daniel Calleja

Policy

If I were the president of Liberia I would negotiate with the rebel group instead of sending troops if the command that could cause another civil war and break the peace that cost them to have.
And if they fight he will have less income and all who want reforms could not carry out as it would be very difficult to solve the problem.

Send military forces to defeat not sure the rebel group nor that they will no longer be attacking the city.

MARIANA MALDONADO

Considering the history of this country, the only and real solution is to send the troops to attack the rebel group, because of the economical, social and mostly the political problems which builds a wall to avoid the pass to freedom and peace.

The thing that i would, of course in a diplomatic way, is to have a treade between the rebel group and my goverment, make a deal in which the two parts have real benefits, to solve this problem. This is the nice way that i found to simplify the conflict in this country.

Policy Perspective – Edgar

The way that I would prevent another civil war in Liberia as the president of that country would be, negotiating directly with the group. In my opinion negotiating Is the best option, because like the people says in my country “Talking the people understand each other” and it is that I would apply to solve this conflict with the rebels although the corruption will increase in Liberia, but I will maintain the peace and that is more important than anything in a country. Also if I use the military force all the plans that I have to improve the situation in the country will be very hard to achieve, for example, the economic and democratic reforms that have been proposed and in addition, the military is not enough prepared, so, I am not sure that I will defeat to the rebels and the peace that hardly has been achieved will be broken because of this fight. In the worst of the cases, if the rebels do not yield after all the negotiations, I would use the military forces, but only as the last resort, when there is nothing else to do against them.

Policy Perspective... Jaime

If I were the President of Liberia, and to prevent a civil war I would negotiate directly with the group. Because If I use the military forces it would be catastrophic, first because the army is not completely trained, also because it would happen the same as Charles Taylor, and finally because it would disturb the peace of the country.
The inconvenient of this option is that the country would be corrupt again, but to prevent this I would establish a treat with the rebels and no one could work in the government, to don't give them power, but they would have more opportunities of job in important companies.

Karen- Policy Perspectives

I will attempt reconciliation in hopes of minimizing further bloodshed, I will negociate directly with the Rebel group, because I think it is better than fighting. Also, with this option we can come to an agreement in which both sides would benefit. Coming to an agreement instead of war would bring peace rather than revenge.

Although I know it would be very difficult to come to an agreement, it would be the best option. But, I know an agreement most likely not work because the Rebel group loves fighting and wants to gain more power; they want gain control over everything.

Pily.....Policy Perspectives

If I want to prevent the civil war in Liberia I would adopt the option of negotiating directly whit the group.

I chose this option because the negotiations could lead to peace and in this way the peace can return. I also choose this option because my military is not well trained and my country doesn´t have the resourses to fight.

The unique inconvenient of this option is that my country´s goverment maybe would be corrupted again.

Soco_Policies

Policy perspectives

If I were to prevent the civil war in Liberia I would try to negotiate directly with the rebel group. My negotiations would include discussing what exactly they want and addressing their demands to the best of my ability without compromising my plan for democracy. I would be firm in my own policies-not allowing the corruption which existed in the previous administration- into the new government.

Some rules...
I would not give them a place in my government.
They would not work in the government, because because that behavior (corruption) will take my country to the civil war as it happened with Charles Taylor.

claris

Policy Perspectives:

1. How do you handle this new threat from the rebels?
I would try to negotiate with the group and if that doesn´t works, I would use military force.

2. Do you adopt a hard-line policy against them in hopes of defeating them?
or do you attempt reconciliation in hopes of minimizing the prospect of further bloodshed, but at the price of bringing your enemies into the government and thus undermining some of your goals?
I think I would attempt reconciliation, because that´s a better way of solving the conflics; of course there´s a risk at bringing my enemies into my government, but its a risk i have to take and maybe I can reach my goals in another way or there maybe another solution for it.

Pily- Conflicts in Canada

Invasion of Iraq (2003):

In 2003, under Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, about a hundred Canadian soldiers, on exchange to American units, participated in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Nevertheless, Canada chose not to "join with the so-called Coalition of the willing" during the invasion of Iraq. Canada refused to do so unless it was approved by the United Nations. This decision, popular in most of Canada, upset the administration of American president George W. Bush.

Concurrently, Canada deployed some additional troops to the
War on Terrorism in Afghanistan. Some claim that it incidentally freed up some American and British troops for assignment in Iraq. Canada continues to have warships in the Persian Gulf area as part of Operation Altair. Their presence is justified by Canada's commitment to Operation Enduring Freedom.

Invasion of Canada (1775):

The Invasion of Canada in 1775 was the first major military initiative by the newly-formed Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The objective of the campaign was to gain military control of the British Province of Quebec, and convince the French-speaking Canadiens to join the revolution on the side of the Thirteen Colonies.
