Food traditions in Canada


-Roast Beef with Roast Turkey
-Beans and toast
-Ginger beef (candied and deep fried, with sweet ginger sauce)
-Jiggs dinner (consists of a combination of pickled salt beef (or salt riblets), boiled potatoes, carrots, cabbage, turnip, turnip greens, bread pudding, dressing, pease pudding)
-Haddock and chips (often found at chip stands and in restaurants)
-Montreal smoked meat
-Hearty breads (known as whole grain or milled)
-Pâté chinois ("Chinese pie", Québécois shepherd's pie)
-Bannock, (fry bread and dough goods)
-Baked cream corn and peas
-Roasted root vegetables
-Poutine (a dish of fries topped with cheese curds and gravy; of Québécois origin, now widespread)
-Sauteed winter greens
-Montreal-style bagels (Montreal bagel is smaller, sweeter and denser, with a larger hole, and is always baked in a wood-fired oven)
